Sherwood Park  "The Family Community"
One of Alberta's fastest growing communities.  With a constant increase in population and housing projects, Sherwood Park and Strathcona County have become a very sought after place to live.  Housing is so diverse one can choose from single family homes, executive estate homes, apartments or condominiums.  In the rural areas there is everything from one acre acreages to 200 acre farm land.  The 2005 census sets Sherwood Parks population at 55,063 and 25,169  in the rural Strathcona County.  Get an overview of Strathcona County in "facts and figures".
Over the past few years Sherwood Park has seen a tremendous growth in business; this includes large supermarkets, well-known restaurants and specialty stores, and a variety of commodity stores as well as a state of the art movie facility called Galaxy Cinemas that houses ten theatres.  In the heart of Sherwood Park sits a 500 seat Festival Place which hosts local, regional and national theatre and musical performances year round.  Millennium Place is the ultimate addition to Sherwood Park as it houses twin ice surfaces, often used by the Edmonton Oilers for practice sessions and soccer surfaces, a fitness facility, and an aquatic centre with a wave pool.
Sherwood Park and Strathcona County is also noted for its high standard of education.  Graduates from both the Elk Island Public Schools and Elk Island Separate Schools consistently score well above provincial standards in diploma examinations.
Sherwood Park also boosts a small community atmosphere, yet with its proximity to the city of Edmonton it has virtually everything a prospective resident would want.  To the east of Sherwood Park are small communities, acreages, farmland and lots of outdoor recreational facilities.  There are many lakes and parks including well known Elk Island National Park, the Ukrainian Culture Village and Strathcona Wilderness Centre.  For more information on Strathcona County and Sherwood Park visit their website at www.strathconacounty.com
